Sulo Karlsson è noto soprattutto come frontman dei rockers svedesi Diamond Dogs e come cantante del supergruppo Punk britannico The Crunch, che presenta membri di The Clash, Sham 69 e Cockney Rejects.

Ma Sulo è anche probabilmente fra i vocalist più produttivi e creativi dei tempi moderni, avendo scritto e pubblicato cinque album all’anno dal 2008, per se stesso e altri artisti in quasi tutti i generi: Punk, Pop, Soul, Country e Rock’n’Roll.

Se l’ultimo suo lavoro, Sulo’s Full English, conteneva 19 brani con performance di guest quali Chris Spedding, Wilko Johnson, Robert Wyatt e tantissimi altri, il nuovo doppio album Night Shift / Brilliant Outsiders vede l’artista scandinavo addirittura superare tutto questo.

Night Shift è un’oscura, melanconica e quasi acustica corsa nelle profondità dell’anima, con testi melliflui, forti e talvolta dolorosi, che si districano su un letto di melodie quasi celestiali, in cui Sulo riesce a creare un nuovo panorama musicale. Brilliant Outsiders si può invece considerare come il suo lavoro più ambizioso fino ad oggi, essendo composto da 13 duetti realizzati con diversi ospiti, fra cui Janis Ian, Terry Reid, Bellamy Brothers, Linda Gail Lewis (sorella di Jerry Lee), Paul Young e altri ancora.
